Highlights
  • The Best Weekend Getaways in the Midwest for Fun Road Trips

From the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame to national parks aplenty, enjoy music, the arts, and foodie finds in these surprising sleeper cities that are great for a weekend getaway or road trip. Downtown is home to a free art museum, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and arguably the prettiest grocery store ever (Heinen’s inside the Cleveland Trust Rotunda). Where to Stay in Omaha Like Cleveland, Milwaukee is about as coastal as the Midwest gets, with beautiful Lake Michigan beaches lining the city (spoiler: it still feels like an ocean because you can’t see the other side). You may know Columbus for its college football dynasty, but the city wants you to know it for its cultural phenoms such as LEGOLAND, Short North Arts District, German Village, and the National Veterans Memorial and Museum, the only place in America which honors all veterans.

  • Where to Stay and Play on the East Coast

As the first stop off the Mayflower, it’s also laden with American history, A lot of distinguished people have made Cape Cod their home at one point or another, but Henry David Thoreau was the only one to write about it, saying “ There are plenty of great hotels on Cape Cod, but to get the full experience, you may want to check out the inns, B&Bs, or houses on the beach as there’s nothing better than the New England seaside aesthetic. The primetime to visit Cape Cod is between Memorial Day and Labor Day, as that’s when the weather is the most optimal for a beach day. Some of the national parks’ best spots are Race Point Beach (at the very tip of the peninsula) for an incredible sunset and Marconi Beach for its immense forty-foot sand cliff.

  • Epically Awesome Things to do in Fort Collins, Colorado

Filled with thriving craft breweries and beautiful natural landscapes just an hour north of Denver, Fort Collins is an amazing option for a short weekend away to experience another amazing Colorado town or a quick stopover if you’re on your way north to Wyoming. As a matter of fact, it’s so beautiful that it’s the only nationally designated Wild and Scenic River. the Craft Brewery Capital of Colorado Fort Collins is home to more than 20 breweries, which collectively produce nearly 70 percent of Colorado’s craft beer and 7 percent of the nation’s rations, which is an insane amount of alcohol if you think about it. Today, you can take advantage of amazing amenities like the supreme spa and Ace Gillet’s cocktail lounge before retreating to a thoughtfully appointed room that’s a little friendlier on the wallet (read: good for a budget).

Oatmeal Sweater Made with Recycled Thread

I loved my gray Upwest Sweater I love that Up West uses sustainable practice and this particular sweater is made of recycled threads. They are pretty thick so great for colder weather and of course in true Spanx fashion hold everything in. no clue, the Spanx website doesn’t have any information on sustainability

Road Trip to Mesa Verde National Park and Canyons of the Ancients

Mesa Verde National Park (4 hours) COVID-19 UPDATE: Even though the Mesa Verde Visitor and Research Center is currently closed, it is still worth stopping by. Mesa Verde is a bit different than most National Parks in the sense that there is a great emphasis on the anthropological aspects of the people who once lived and migrated to the region in addition to the natural beauty of the place. Since we arrived in the early afternoon on a Friday during the off-season, we were able to book day-of tickets for Cliff Palace and we snagged the first tour for Long House the following day without any problem. A bit further off, in the Wetherill Mesa, the Long House Tour requires a short walk to the cliff, where you walk down a moderately steep staircase to the site.

  • The Best Road Trips from Chicago from Nature Retreats to City Escapes

Whenever you’re looking for a quick trip out of the Windy City, here are the best road trips from Chicago. If you’re looking for a short day trip from Chicago, Lake Geneva is one of the best beach towns in the Midwest without fighting the throngs of people at North Avenue or along the Gold Coast, where you can spread out and breathe. Explore the new Union Station and see the city from the Wheel, experience the brand-new virtual reality ride at the St. Louis Aquarium, tour the insane architectural wonder that is City Museum, stop and smell the roses at the Missouri Botanical Garden, explore the 1,300 acres of St. Louis’ Forest Park, and admire the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis. To make your visit to St. Louis one of the best road trips from Chicago, you can add a few stops on your way like Peoria and Springfield, which are part of the iconic Route 66.

  • The Best Things to do in Breckenridge All Year-Round

With fat tires specifically designed to maneuver in the snow, earn your turns, and ease yourself into life at altitude biking to one of Breckenridge’s most popular local breweries, Broken Compass. Run by Breckenridge’s Nordic Center, you’ll ride to a secluded glass cabin to enjoy s’mores and hot cocoa as you watch as the Alpenglow lights up the inky sky. Breckenridge is also home to two Nordic centers, which boast more than 30 miles of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails, meaning you can still enjoy some alpine fun and take in the landscape without pummeling downhill. When the weather’s warmer and you’re looking to cool off, Blue River and Maggie Pond provide watery adventures like fly fishing, paddle boarding, and kayaking (there’s even a manmade kayak park in town!).

  • Where to Soak in the Rocky Mountain State

You can choose between the world’s largest hot spring pool, the deepest hot spring pool in the world, or hideout in a secret underground network of vapor caves. The Glenwood Hot Springs Resort pool corrals the natural warm-water spring into a couple of manmade pools, collectively making it the largest hot spring pool in the world! And while the Mother Spring is the highlight of The Springs Resort & Spa, there are 23 other hot spring pools and a 79-room hotel filled with amenities for you to enjoy. Neither manmade nor natural pools, SunWater Spa has seven outdoor cedar tubs, ranging from 90℉ to 103℉, and three saline pools inside, consisting of a cold plunge of 80℉, pool of 96℉ and a hot tub of 104℉.

    How to Compost in Denver

Denver Composting started in 2013 and only 13% of Denver households compost. All Denver compost is taken to Al Organics, where they turn our waste into compost to be sold to farmers and gardens. You can also purchase it at your local Ace or during The City of Denver’s Anual Mulch & Compost Giveaway. Just call one of these services and get started today, you will regret not doing this sooner as I do • Tell your representative to expand composting and recycling service in Denver and Colorado • Educate yourself!

  • Weekend in Austin: 48 Hours in Texas's Capital of Cool

As a college town and hip city, Austin’s brunch game is strong, and there’s no better place than to start digging into their signature cuisine than with a spot of Tex-Mex. Austin is known for its food truck scene, and with over 1,000 wheeled eateries, it’s like making yourself a DIY food crawl. Visit Ms. P’s Electric Cock and White Girl Asian Food at The Rainey Food Truck Park to snicker at the names and snag some mini donuts from Little Lucy’s around the corner. Other clusters worth visiting include Pangea Lounge on 6th, 500 Burnet, South Austin Trailer Park & Eatery (where Torchy’s got its start), Spider House, East Riverside, and Barton Springs Picnic.
