That way you don’t have to wait hours for hot coffee to cool, use the cold brew method, or mess with coffee-water-ice ratios with iced pour over coffee. While I do love an iced pour over that produces a slightly more tangy, bright brew, you can’t beat how easy the Hyperchiller is to use. With the Hyperchiller, I can brew 20 ounces of coffee, give her 10 ounces hot, and chill 10 ounces for me. I suggest sticking to cold brew, since that’s easier to batch brew.

It became the world’s largest coffee producer in the 1840s and continues to be a driving force to the Brazilian economy ever since. Brazilian coffees are famous worldwide and are known for having a chocolatey, nutty and rich flavor profile. It is considered one of the most expensive coffees in the world since collecting and harvesting the beans is quite intensive. While considered a latecomer in the coffee world, Panama has made its mark by producing one of the most expensive coffees in the world, the Panama Geisha.

  • Steamworks Coffee

While I am a fan of all things history, ironically the canals were secondary to my recent visit as I had arrived firstly to try a relatively new (at least to me) coffee roaster called Steamworks Coffee. Located right along the canal in a single brick building, Steamworks established a great first impression with its beautiful landscaping, convenient parking lot and sweeping canal vistas. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, passion fruit, orange zest, vanilla, 2% milk and a little strawberry, proving smooth and sweet. Sadly (or fortunately depending on your opinion) the canal has largely been covered over in places like Syracuse, but for folks looking to see what used to be, there are still a few towns that have kept their canal heritage and charm, and if you had to pick just one to visit, I would suggest none other than Lockport.

  • Highwheeler Coffee

Situated in the old town of Fort Plain, this coffeehouse sits in a beautiful white-and-grey storefront along with a rear entry complete with picnic table and seating. The espresso, pulled short with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, caramel, lemon, grapefruit, graham cracker, a little almond and a bit of oats, proving sweet and a tad tart. If I still lived in Upstate New York, this would be a frequent visit in my cross-state travels, but nonetheless I shall be content to visit when the occasion is extended. If you happen to be driving on I-90 past Fort Plains or visiting the area, definitely give Highwheeler a visit for some great coffee.

  • Tipico Coffee

While I definitely could have stuck around Tipico for hours, I had a few more stops beckoning me and sadly had to make an exit. The filtered Costa Rica also bestowed a fanfare of flavor, with smooth notes of honey, sweet milk, wheat, apple, elderberry, birch beer and a little black tea. While I definitely could have stuck around Tipico for hours, I had a few more stops beckoning me and sadly had to make an exit. made the trip less enjoyable, or maybe it was because my first taste of authentic buffalo wings was not nearly as euphoric as I had hoped (to this day, I have still not had amazing wings within Buffalo).

  • The Elysian Bar

The property resides north of the French Quarter in the Marigny District, consisting of a repurposed church, school, rectory and convent on Burgundy Street. The second perk was different though similarly glorious, in that the Hotel Peter and Paul has an onsite coffee presence called The Elysian Bar. Located in the rectory, The Elysian Bar is a cafe and bar run by the same team behind Bacchanal Wine , with excellent libations and terrific coffee available to hotel guests and locals alike. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, cream, blood orange, tangerine, basil, cucumber and a little hibiscus, proving sweet and bright.

  • HEY! Cafe / HEY Coffee Co

One of my favorite brightly-decored shops while in town was HEY Cafe!, just west of the Garden District on Magazine Street. The espresso, pulled short with brown crema, smacked of lime, blood orange, ginger candy, mineral water and a bit of basil, proving sweet and balanced. The drip coffee also made fireworks, with thick notes of honey, biscuits, sweet pear preserves, heavy cream, cashew and romaine in a medium body. Whether you're a local or in town for Mardi Gras, take a trip to one of HEY's two locations for some great coffee and a bit of local color.

  • Le Marché by NP

I had been looking for places to stop and was surprised to find a snazzy coffee bar tucked inside a women's and childrens' boutique. The Bourdoir Bar is located on the right when you walk in Le Marche, full of bright pinks (including the espresso machine) and high-end finishes. The espresso, pulled short / medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon, vanilla cookie, romaine, and a little raspberry, proving vibrant and succulent. After talking with one of the employees, it sounds like there exist plans to move to a larger facility soon, which if this is the case, means Whitefish will have an even better coffee presence in the future.

  • Coffee Science

Situated in a former house on S Broad Ave, Coffee Science is a nifty coffee shop that's more likely to be full of locals then tourists. With it's bright interior, many areas of seating and backyard full of picnic tables, the shop is a perfect place to meet-up with friends or work on some work solo. The espresso, pulled short with brown crema, smacked of lime, corn chips, chocolate milk, arugula and abrupt accents of earl grey, proving overall sweet and bright. The filtered coffee also proved tasty, with vibrant notes of strawberry, wheat, milk, caramel, nougat, almond and a little nutmeg in a light bodied brew.

  • Kru Coffee

yesRating: 6+ [ see key While Saratoga springs is known best for its horses, the area also possesses a beautiful history and lovely town. Situated in a large retail area outside of town, this establishment boasts a two-story space outfitted with a rustic bar area, plenty of seating and lots of windows to draw in the natural light. The espresso, hold short/medium with brown crema, smackdown chocolate, lime, roasted nuts, milk, pretzel and spinach, proving dry and tasty. The batch brew of Turning Point proved similarly delicious yet much more vibrant, with notes of almond, pink lady apple, blueberry, caramel, lettuce and cherry tomatoes.
