Applications are open for the Alliance for Watershed Education’s fellowship program

The Alliance for Watershed Education’s (AWE) Delaware River Watershed Fellowship program may be for you. The program employs fellows across 23 different watershed centers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. All fellows will participate in a 3-day overnight training at the Pocono Environmental Education Center (this training may be moved to zoom depending on COVID restrictions), with supplemental webinars throughout the summer designed to engage fellows from different centers with each other and educate fellows on conservation across the watershed. Click here to view the list of watershed centers involved in the program — each center’s page provides specific information on eligibility requirements.

  • Best 10 beaches in Coron Palawan, The Philippines

Nearby islands and lakes included on the tour are Skeleton Reef, which homes World War II shipwreck sites; Twin Lagoon’s turquoise waters; and the Calamian Islands, home to many sub islands and dive resorts. While most beaches allow you to eat lunch and bring outside food, Malcapuya beach (in Malcapuya island, near Coron) offers fresh coconut water and other drinks right on the sands of the beach! Another one of the islands that can be reached via boat tour, Bulog Dos Island, is about an hour and a half to two hours away from Coron Town Proper. The water here is so shallow that you can travel to its sister island and visit the Two Seasons Coron Island Resort.

  • Spice Up Your DIY Travel Itinerary with These 9 Tips

If you’re not going to be relying on public transportation to and around your destination, find the best prices and transport times on Hopper, Skyscanner, or Kiwi. For example, if you’re planning on going kayaking, you don’t need to know every twist and turn in the river, or the flora and fauna you can expect to see. But what we do recommend is including important things like the contact details of the kayaking company, contact details of your hotel or accommodation, your medical cover details, emergency services phone numbers, or the route to the nearest medical facility. You don’t need to run out and join an environmental group or go out of your way to find an eco-warrior even to take part in.

How Bella Vista Neighbors Association fundraised to keep its neighborhood clean & hire returning citizens

The Bella Vista Neighbors Association (BVNA), a nonprofit community organization dedicated to public safety, preservation, and community building, has been crowdfunding since 2018 to pay for their own street sweeping. There were a lot of members of the board who were really interested in litter and waste management and who think that the city needs to be doing more to keep our neighborhoods clean,” says Alison Perelman, chair of BVNA’s beautification committee. When the city didn’t provide, BVNA decided to hire ACAM management, a minority- and woman-owned cleaning company which had been working with other civic associations such as the Queen Village Neighbors Association, to start cleaning the neighborhood’s streets. While the program’s success is an incredible model for other neighborhoods and civic associations, it is important to recognize that not all neighborhoods have access to the resources that Bella Vista does.
