Breast Cancer Recovery - Anne's Success Story

With a lumpectomy and an aggressive course of chemo and radiation, she was considered by her team of physicians to be cancer-free. While driving every 3 weeks to Duke Medical Center for chemo treatments, Anne enrolled in the Club Pilates Teacher Training program to become a certified Pilates instructor. If you ask Anne about her cancer recovery, she’ll tell you, “Cancer took so many things from me, but Pilates gave me my confidence back, my body back, and, most importantly, my control. 5 Ways to Practice Gratitude Today

Changing your mindset to think of food as a lifestyle rather than a “diet” can kick start your healthy habits. If lists aren’t your thing, try “crowding out” bad habits with healthy snacks! It can change a mood, a person’s day, someone’s mind, and even build relationships that might have never existed.

Living With Transverse Myelitis - Kimberly's Success Story

I was still left with severe nerve damage and neuropathy, spasms, and diminished feeling in my body – except for the nerve pain. At the end of May 2019, I unfortunately sustained a tibial fracture in my left leg while at the beach, and was left with no use of that leg (and completely immobile while it healed for the next 6 weeks). In those six weeks, I could feel the gains I had made slowly slipping away and started to feel discouraged again. Starting my day with Pilates seems to increase my stamina and energy through the better part of the day, in my fight against fatigue, a side effect of Transverse Myelitis.

Pilates with Type 1 Diabetes: Lauren's Follow-Up Story

Cardio makes my blood sugar go low and weight lifting makes me go high so it was a constant battle and honestly would make me want to not even work out. I’m glad I finally have an exercise that I enjoy doing that doesn’t have a huge effect on my blood sugar. If I count my carbs incorrectly, my blood sugar could end up going high or low. I also have a Dexcom, which is a continuous glucose monitor that connects to a little PDM I can keep next to my Reformer, so I always know what my blood sugar is.
