Small groups, big adventures. Our style of travel means you’ll stay under the radar, travel the local way, eat the local way and sleep the local way.
You’ll be guided by our most passionate and experienced local leaders Travelling on an Intrepid Premium trip with our most experienced local leaders is like having a friend on the ground, eager to show you the very best bits of their country. Whether you’re stopping in for lunch at a community-run teahouse in Morocco that provides income to local women, or spending a day at sea with a self-sustaining fisherman off the coast of a remote island in Croatia, rest assured that you can enjoy an adventure that’s both conscious and comfortable. You’ll see the highlights and lesser-known treasures From life-affirming encounters with the world’s most celebrated wonders, to the quiet beauty found in everyday moments of local life, Intrepid Premium trips feature more included activities than any other style of trip, and each experience is designed by locals to connect you with the destination. We’d never take away magnificent game drives through the Masai Mara, but we will add in an immersive visit with a local Maasai village, and you won’t have to trade the pyramids of Giza for an real-life experience – spend a day exploring the site and pop into the home of a local family in Cairo for dinner.
On our Premium Russia trip, you’ll be treated to a guided tour where you can learn all about the history and architecture of the property, which will be followed by a private concert and champagne. A guided bicycle tour around Puerto Maldero and the Buenos Aires Ecological Reserve is the perfect way to explore the region just like a local would, followed up by a walking tour in the city to see hidden gems pointed out by your local leader such as the fruit market or the culturally rich Paseo Victorica street. On our Premium Israel & The Palestinian Territories you’ll have the chance to meet with a local expert for a lively conversation about the fascinating geopolitics of Israel, the Palestinian Territories and the Middle East. On our Premium Vietnam in Depth trip you’ll have the chance to learn more about this former kingdom by spending time with a local Cham descendent in their family home.
Gorilla Lodge is set high up on the Nteko Ridge, meaning you have incredible views of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, which is famous for being the home of half of the world’s 800 mountain gorilla population. WITH MOUNTAIN GORILLAS Cappadocia in Turkey is known for its stunning fairy-chimneys that are popularly viewed from the sky in hot air balloons, but if you go the other direction and head underground, you’ll find the Splendid Cave Hotel. On Intrepid’s premium trips, we splash out and stay in the deluxe chalets, which include hot showers, LED televisions and even WiFi, all powered by solar energy. The comfortable rooms all have an open wall to the rainforest meaning you get to drift off to sleep to the sounds of the jungle – but don’t worry, there are mosquito nets and even WiFi, so you’re definitely not going to be roughing it despite the remote location.
According to Fast Company, Intrepid Travel was named 5th on the list of 10 Most Innovative Companies in the travel sector for our leadership in sustainability, product innovation and advocacy projects which our business implemented in 2020, while COVID-19 brought the world — and the travel industry — to a halt. As the world’s largest adventure travel company, a certified B-Corp, and a pioneer in sustainable travel for nearly 32 years, Intrepid Travel has remained rooted in sustainability amidst the unprecedented global pandemic, advocating for a more sustainable and equitable post-pandemic travel industry. Open-sourced an Animal Welfare Policy Toolkit to protect the world’s wildlife In August 2020, in partnership with global animal welfare organisation World Animal Protection, Intrepid Travel launched a free, customisable Animal Welfare Policy Toolkit to encourage other travel companies to end — for good — the exploitation of wildlife in tourism and entertainment venues. In October 2020 our purpose team, led by our Chief People and Purpose Officer, Natalie Kidd, helped Intrepid Travel to become the first and only tour operator in the world to set verifiable science-based emission reduction targets through the Science Based Targets initiative.
