DIY Dowel Rod Face Mask Holder

Thankfully, the concept of wearing a mask out in public has grown to feel “normal” and almost like second nature, but it also feels a good bit surreal, too. I always wear a KN95 mask when I have to go out these days, but I like to layer a nice patterned fabric face mask over top of the surgical-grade one to (hopefully!) make me seem a little friendlier and less serious. The good news is that when things eventually go back to normal (they will, right?!), you can use your DIY face mask peg rail to hold just about anything in your entry Hop through to Hunker here to read my full tutorial, including linked supply list and tips for getting those two arched ends juuuuuuuust right using a simple ramekin dish and jigsaw.

DIY Mini Greenhouse for Your Deck or Patio

These are a great alternative if you don't have a table saw or don't feel comfortable using a circular saw to cut the cleats! Circular saw, miter saw or miter box Before you begin, don't forget to download the DIY greenhouse plans! Use a brad nailer and 1 ¼" brad nails, or a drill with 1 ¼" exterior wood screws, to attach the cleat to the side. Use exterior wood glue and 2 ½" exterior pocket hole screws to secure the cleat pieces to the uprights.

    Weekend Inspiration: No.132

We’re experiencing sort of a mixed bag here in Virginia (bouncing from cloudy 52-degree days, to sunny 65-degree afternoons), but the hope of consistent warm weather has gotten me outside despite the lingering winter chill. If you’re planning to get outside this weekend to work on sprucing up your yard, like we are, keep scrolling for a weekend link roundup featuring landscaping inspiration and curb appeal updates to make My favorite update is that we repainted our front door a robin’s egg blue color called “Halcyon Green.” 3. I used this large light gray pot from Lowe’s and a blue ceramic one to “plant” our two faux evergreens in, and I think they’d fool just about anybody.

How to Choose the Right Sandpaper Grit

Low grit sandpaper will leave scratches in the surface that will be polished away by higher grits. Go over the surface again with 80 grit sandpaper to bring the rest of the surface down to the low spot. For sanding raw wood before painting, start at a low sanding grit, 80-100, and work your way up to 220 grit. Just give it a quick sanding with 320 or 400 grit sandpaper to smooth it out, then remove the dust and apply subsequent coats.

How to Install Drip Irrigation in Your Garden

You would need a huge garden with hundreds of plants in order to use the same amount of drip irrigation water as a single sprinkler! If you decide to convert an area of lawn into a garden bed, or add a huge drift of flowers in a section of the garden that doesn't have a sprinkler, you're stuck watering by hand every few days. Draw a diagram of your yard or garden, and indicate where the faucets, plants, shrubs and trees are located. ½" tubing will carry more water volume to the far reaches of the garden beds. I plan to run one line of ½" unperforated tubing along each bed, with ¼" micro tubing junctions to direct water to each plant.

Custom Framing A Vintage Art Piece

What feels like a long, long time ago, I purchased a vintage seascape line drawing from a local antique store. I’ve worked with the team before to custom frame one of my dad’s old license plates for his birthday, and I’ve also shown how you can use the Framebridge mail-in service to frame old recipe cards as gifts. Their custom framers followed my directions perfectly, and it’s exactly how I wanted it to look two years ago when I picked it out at the antique store. All this to say that if you happen to spot a beautiful art piece at a thrift or antique store, but the frame isn’t to your taste, don’t give up on the art!

How to Prune Japanese Maple Trees

Spring is the perfect time to prune Japanese maple trees, before the buds break into leaves. With the leaves out of the way, you're able to see the shape of the tree itself and guide it into the look you want in summer. To keep the form of a weeping Japanese maple tree, you should prune branches that cross the midline of the tree. I hope these tips will help you prune your Japanese maple tree with confidence!

Our DIY Side Door Entry Makeover

We found a different spot for the trash can so that it wasn’t stinking up the carport area, and we tore out all of the overgrown vegetation at the back of the carport to allow for more natural light. Here’s what we did: replaced the overhead light fixture (and upgraded to a 2-bulb light for added brightness), painted the storm door a fun new color, added a bench for seating and closed storage, I made a DIY house numbers planter, installed a wall-mounted sconce, and I also tiled around the slate stoop. The old orange color, in case you liked that best, is called “Peppery,” and the new greenish gray is called “Illusive Green,” both from Sherwin Williams. The short story is that I screwed a small wooden box from the craft store to a wooden board (also from the craft store), and then I painted it black, sealed it with a clear spray sealant, added house numbers to the front of the board, and filled the box with faux succulents and rocks.

Easy DIY Bike Rack for the Wall

Save precious floor space in your garage with this DIY bike rack for the wall! I designed this really simple DIY vertical bike rack to take advantage of the four feet of empty wall space directly across from the door. These horizontal pieces will screw right into the studs in the wall, and the vertical racks will attach to these supports. Attach the vertical bike rack to the horizontal supports Place the vertical bike rack up against the horizontal supports, and check that it's straight with a level.

Fresh And Functional Bedroom Paint Makeover

The main things on my to-do list were to use KILZ 2® All-Purpose Primer to cover up the old painted arch headboard, and then I wanted to give the wall a totally new look with a gray-green topcoat called “Day-To-Day” from the Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines® paint collection. I had originally intended to just paint the wall where the painted arch used to be, but I loved the Day-To-Day Magnolia Home color so much that I took it over to the adjacent wall, too! I might end up taking the color all the way around the room, but for now, I’m loving the color-blocked feature wall look, especially since it nods back to the original painted arch, but in a fresh new way in honor of 2021. When I took them down to paint, I really loved how much brighter the room looked, and the fact that the wall color stops 3/4 of the way up the window frames gives them enough interest that I personally don’t think the room looks empty without the curtains.
