Highlights
  • Cease & Desist – Bourbon Podcast #13

This month’s Whiskey News sets a new precedent for breaking news in the bourbon world, as you won’t hear ANY of these hot tips on any other podcast. With so much breaking bourbon news, we skip the Craft Shoot this month and go straight to Bourbon Bullshit, the most popular bourbon podcast segment in the universe! Addressing things like home aging whiskey, Elon Musk’s attempt to buy a coveted craft distillery, and a true bonehead move involving Blanton’s dump dates, this month’s Bourbon Bullshit hits hard and gives you the attitude you’ve come to expect from Bourbon & Banter.

  • Royal Spring Flush with Royalmount Gin

With Spring officially here in Toronto, you can expect to see a ton of Gin cocktail recipes shared on the Liquid Culture platforms. With Royalmount Gin infused with Rose and Cucumber, I highlight this in the Royal Spring Flush Cocktail. Having the essence of a Gin and Tonic, I dress it up with additional Rose Water, Rose pedal Ice Cubes (optional) plus White Cranberry Juice! This is a VERY easy cocktail to throw together, and expect many more Royalmount Gin cocktail creations soon!

  • How to Drink Coole Swan Irish Cream Liqueur

I had been meaning to try Coole Swan when I saw it was named the Number 1 cream liqueur in the world by Wine Enthusiast Magazine 2020. Warm Irish Whiskey takes you into the next sip, where it all begins again Disclaimer: Some of these posts contain affiliate links and as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. • Is Bourbon Broken? Part 3 – The Distribution & Retail Problem

You see, a few days ago I got an email from their VIP Program announcing that they were doing a Charity Raffle for the “Right to Buy” one of 30 bottles of Col. Now, I’m not a wholesaler but if the MSRP of these bottles is $65, I can’t imagine their cost from the distributor is over $55. Still, not an issue for me until you get to the part that you don’t actually win the bottle, you still have to pay the retailer for the bottle, in person, at one of their locations. This seems more like a “right to buy” lottery where you buy a ticket and the real winner is the retailer, then the charity.

6 Liquor-Infused Gelato Flavors to Savor at Quore Miami

The recently opened Quore Gelato offers more than 20 flavors of their small-batch, Italian gelato—all liquor-infused with ultra premium spirits or wines, such as Hennessy Cognac, Terraza Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and Moët & Chandon Champagne. Their first South Florida boutique is located on the second level of Miami’s famed Aventura Mall, next to the Ferrari store and Quore’s posh spot offers a jewel-toned seating area, complete with plush loveseats, across from it’s gelateria counter. Take home Quore—short for Liquore (Italian for liquor), in their high-end cartons, designed to keep frozen, in their medio, larger pinta (pint) size, or boxed as a tasting flight of your choice of six piccolo sized cartons. Mix that with some of the best mixologists in the United States, and Quore has achieved a perfect mix of rich and naturally sourced ingredients as well as world-class liquors to create a low-fat Italian frozen treat for adults.

  • How to Drink Italicus With Giuseppe Gallo

So I’m so excited to have you here, the person who invented Italicus with me, and I’d love to hear a little bit about how you got to the point where you even wanted to invent a new spirit or a new category. this is what it looks like, this is what it smells like, and I want to create a brand Italicus, which is going to make every single Italian that lives in Italy, or outside Italy like myself, when they are going to look the bottle, when they’re going to read the name, they’re going to say that’s an Italian brand and you’ve got to make them proud. Italicus is the only brand ever in the history which won best new product at the Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans, Best European Product in Berlin, Best New Product Italy, Best New Product in Spain, Portugal, and UK in the first 10 months since the launch. Giuseppe: I didn’t believe it at the beginning when they told me coconut water, then I saw on the flavor profile of bergamot, it says that actually coconut is one of the closest flavor profiles because coconut also brings some tannins and actually they match very well.

2010 Old Particular Caol Ila 8 Years Review

This 2010 Old Particular Caol Ila 8 Years would have been a good candidate for our 8 yo and under Caol Ila tasting. Though, I don’t know if it would have done any better than the one I did take… Old Particular is a Douglas Laing brand that’s readily found at K&L here in Los Angeles and this was one of their 2018 picks. Damn, this 2010 Old Particular Caol Ila 8 Years just screams minerally clay new make and lightly drags along some herbally spice, smoke and sweet notes. To get much of anything out of the 2010 Old Particular Caol Ila 8 Years required a lot of work and patience, none of which paid off.

2009 Hepburn's Choice Caol Ila 7 Years Review

This 2009 Hepburn’s Choice Caol Ila 7 Years was my whisky of the night at a past Malt Nuts. PALATE Peat, grapey/wine sweetness, vanilla fondant, fruit leather and smoke with a bit of sulfur and menthol. Sweet dried dark fruit, smoke, vanilla and sulfur that mixes to complete the circle while going a bit darker with a rather heavy dried dark fruit note. Caol Ila 7 Years is some dang tasty whisky with the wine notes mixing incredibly well with the young Caol Ila profile.

What to drink at Wayku in Miami's Wynwood district.

In the kitchen, Wayku’s young and eclectic chef, Matteo Gritti, deploys his innovative techniques fusing Latin and traditional Andean cuisine, while, it’s celebrated mixologist, Mona Gallosi, creates cocktails that complement his food concept. For the bar program at Wayku, she has built a culinary drink menu, entitled “Authentics”  based on flavors, textures and aromas of Chef Gritti’s cuisine. Do not leave without ordering their unique and delish desserts: Pink Volcano -pistachio gelato, which gets its pink hue from ruby cocoa beans; and the amazing Avocado Cheesecake topped with candy mint and finger lime. Hours: Tuesday through Thursday, from 4:30pm to 11 pm; Friday through Saturday, from 4:30 pm to 12 am; and Sunday from 4:30pm 11 pm.

  • Yes, There Really Is A Difference in Glassware

I find it offers a nose of caramel, vanilla, and oak, a mouthing of caramel, fruit, and vanilla, and a palate of vanilla, caramel, toffee, corn, and oak. I picked up caramel, vanilla, toffee, corn, and oak, and the narrow mouth helps aim the liquid across my palate versus everywhere in my mouth, allowing me to pick out the individual flavors. I was able to pick up vanilla, caramel, and oak, and didn't find anything in terms of alcohol burn. I was able to pick up all of the expected flavors of corn, vanilla, caramel, toffee, and oak.
