How to Decorate your Home After Christmas

It happens every year, it’s the beginning of January and if you have not started yet, it’s now time to take down your Christmas decorations. To help you transition from Christmas to Winter decor, I created this list with some tips on How to Decorate your home after Christmas. I like to go around the house with storage bins and store everything that doesn’t work for winter, like red and green decor elements, mini Christmas trees, ornaments, and Christmas wreaths. The Christmas tree is gone and there’s an empty corner, the best way to fill up that space is by adding a plant.

How to Decorate for Christmas using Neutral Tones

Here are some tips on How to Decorate for Christmas using Neutral Tones: SIMPLICITY NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE Incorporating neutral colors into your Christmas decor means more of a natural look, more greens, and less busy-ness. We all got to agree that 2020 is been quite a year, our lives keep getting busier and busier, using calming colors for your Christmas decor is a way to create a peaceful retreat. Use some leftover sprigs among some pine cones to finish up, these elements will add texture to your decor. Just because you are going neutral, doesn’t mean you can’t add some glam to your decor.

How to Paint Wood Stained Kitchen Cabinets

Now that you’ve labeled everything, it’s time to remove the doors, drawers, and hinges of your cabinets. Kitchen cabinets can get very greasy over the years, and one of the secrets to getting a smooth paint finish on your cabinets is to make sure they are cleaned before start painting. Most people skip this step, but deglossing your cabinets will allow the paint to absorb better, it’ll get rid of that glossy finish most stained cabinets have, and it’ll also make sanding a bit easier. Apply the first coat of paint on the back of the doors and drawers then allow it to dry overnight, repeat the process on the back of your pieces and let it dry for 24h.

8 Ways to Decorate your Home for Halloween

This year I’m using spiders, crows, and skulls to my decor, you can also use cute bats, faux snakes, rats, ghosts, or any other creepy creature you’d like. My decor style is very neutral, and since my creepy creatures are black, I chose this amazing color to complement my Halloween decor. For Halloween, I added two cute pumpkins, got some spooky black stems for my vase, and finished up with crows and spiders. Enjoy some DIY Halloween projects with your kids, bake spooky goodies with your significant other, watch spooky movies, and have so much fun during the spooky season!

  • Install a Vinyl Privacy Fence Backyard Makeover -

This summer I put in a stepping stone path to the square fire pit, built new front steps, and installed a 6′ vinyl privacy fence. This build was one of the most complicated things I’ve ever accomplished because I decided to have them come off the house at an angle. After removing the old driveway and getting the grass there to grow, I wanted privacy and clarity for our new backyard. But the new steps bring a warm welcome and the stepping stone path a bit of charm to the other things we have going on outside.

How to DIY a Board and Batten Accent Wall

    * Window and Door MDF casing primed boards 19/32” x 3 1/2” x 12′ (cut in half, I had Lowe’s cutting them for me, the amount of boards will depend of the size of your project) To install the top boards, use liquid nails heavy duty and spread it out on the back of the boards, then with the nail gun and a level, start nailing the top boards on the wall. Now it’s time to install the battens, since you’ve had marked where they are going to be, repeat the same process as the top ones, use the liquid nails heavy-duty, then nail each batten, using the level as you go. My master bedroom wall color is called Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore, the color I chose for the board and batten accent wall is called Simply White, also by Benjamin Moore, in a semi-gloss finish.

Before and After Dining Room Makeover

besides all the bright colors the house had, the dining room wall was the one that caught our eyes, as you will see on the picture below, the wall was satin royal blue and had a huge card board moon among some pictures. One of the biggest challenges of designing a dining room is what to put on the walls, since this room is known for a place where we gather, I couldn’t think of a better option for this makeover than creating a gallery wall with some family pictures. , so you can start creating your gallery wall or any other wall decor you would like, check their website and fall in love with all of their amazing products. It’s September, time to start decorating for Fall, I can’t think of a better place to decorate for this amazing season than the dining room, with all of the fun activities this season brings, decorating the dining room for fall with all the cozy and warm elements is one of my favorite things to do.

6 Tips to Decorate your Home for Fall

To incorporate this amazing color to your decor you can use throw pillows and blankets, fabric pumpkins, faux fall stems, rugs, or if you need a big change you can add some rust orange furniture like armchairs, this color will for sure warm up your space. , there’s just so many options out there, different sizes and colors, you can choose the faux ones or the real ones, they are great for indoor and outdoor decor, it will all depend on your style. Another great way to incorporate texture to your fall decor is adding some layers, usually when I talk about texture, I’m referring to the layering of different materials and colors in a space, for example, if you have a floating shelf, try adding different picture frames or fall wall decor, instead of using only one singular piece, use 2 or 3 different sizes, layer them in different directions, these elements will create texture to any decor. There’s just so much beauty in simplicity, fall decorating is suppose to be fun, to bring back memories, to warm up your home, don’t stress out too much about it, take your time, sometimes adding a single pumpkin on the top of a book placed on your end table, among a fall scented candle is all you need to accomplish your fall decor.

    DIY Wooden Farmhouse Riser Tray

    * Wax or any other top coat for chalk paint Start by sanding the wood plaque, I used a sander with the 120 grit sand paper, but if you don’t have one, a sander block or sand paper will do it. Now that your pieces are clean, it’s time to stain them, the stain color I chose is called Early American by MinWax, it’s the same color I’ve chosen for my Floating Shelves, if you haven’t seen the post yet and want to learn how to build your own floating shelves, CLICK HERE. Alright, let’s go to the next step, I decided to use a white chalk paint and distress my riser tray, I wanted to create an antique looking piece, but if you want a wood stained riser tray just skip this part. The last step is very important, especially if you are going to use your farmhouse riser tray on your bathroom countertop, since it’s a spot that can get wet or/and get splashed, sealing your tray is very important and it can be done with different products, I used clear wax, because that’s what I had at home, but you can also use polycrylic or any chalk paint top coat.
